Normalizing job titles ensures that your team uses a common list of positions. This way, everyone uses the same terms, and your targeting becomes reliable.
Why normalize job titles?
When qualifying contacts in the CRM, you can freely enter the position of your contact. However, this freedom quickly becomes problematic: the same position is written in ten different ways.
This is why it is often useful to normalize job titles. You then define a list of positions, and everyone uses the same terms.

Note that an email filter allows you to target contacts based on their position. Normalized positions therefore make this targeting much more precise.

How to set up this list?
The setup is done in two steps. First, open the dictionary and select the list “Job Titles” (table llx_c_job). You create your job titles there.

Then, in PDF/Interface Settings, activate option PG47. From then on, free entry is replaced by the dropdown list.

Note: If your database already contains positions outside the list, they remain displayed. However, in edit mode, you will need to update the position via the dropdown list.
The benefits of a job title list
Normalized positions improve your entire CRM usage. Indeed, you filter, group, and target without approximation.
You benefit in three ways:
- clean data: a position is always written the same way;
- precise campaigns: your emailings reach the right contacts;
- guided entry: the list avoids errors and duplicates.
More about the general dictionary
In the end, normalizing job titles requires a small configuration effort, quickly amortized. Once the list is in place, your teams enter data faster and your data remains clean. Your targeting, on the other hand, gains lasting precision.
