EAN barcodes let you scan your receipts and shipments instead of entering them manually. This saves time and improves stock movement accuracy.
Receiving and shipping with EAN barcodes
DoliPlus lets you process receipts and shipments using EAN barcodes. The most common EAN 13 codes can be from your suppliers or your own.
EAN 128 codes carry more information: the DDM, the DLC, and a batch number. Additionally, if your products are perishable with an expiry date but no batch tracking, the interface generates a unique batch number. This lets you label your products on arrival and accurately track them during preparation.
Preparing for scanning
Configuration prepares the scan. First, enable batch management in the Stockplus module if needed:
- enable V2 batch management (incompatible with location tracking);
- if quantities vary on receipt, disable quantity control for V2 batches.
Next, enable the Barcodeplus and Barcode modules, then set the required options. Additionally, if quantities vary in delivery notes, enable option PG69 in the PDF/Interface settings.
The scanner works in direct mode and offline mode with data restoration in the input field. For testing, online label generators like this example are available.
Scanning a receipt or shipment
Scanning is straightforward. For receipts, select “Start barcode entry”, then answer “yes” to “Initialise quantities?”. Then scan the EAN 13 code of the item: a dialog box accepts successive batch scans, adds lines, and performs counting with alerts.
For shipments, the process is identical. Note, however, that entry is only available when creating a delivery note, not when modifying it. Create the delivery note, enable scanning, then scan the items: batch lines are automatically added under the product, with the corresponding stock.
Why switch to EAN barcodes?
Manual entry of receipts is slow and error-prone. EAN barcodes speed up and secure your stock movements.
You benefit in three ways:
- faster data entry: a scan replaces keyboard input;
- fewer errors: the correct item and batch are recognised;
- detailed traceability: DLC, DDM, and batches track each product.
