Managing services in DoliPlus distinguishes intangible services from physical products. This way, you invoice and track each service according to its own rules, without confusing it with a stocked item.
Product or service: what’s the difference?
Products and services are often confused, yet they follow different rules. A service is a non-material good: it is sold, bought, or offered, but remains one-off or spans a duration.
Here are the characteristics that identify a service:
- it can be one-off (e.g., home equipment installation) or ongoing (e.g., product warranty);
- it is not stored in a warehouse;
- it is therefore not subject to inventory.
Consequently, service management follows a different logic from product management. Learn more about products and services
Virtual services
A virtual service is a “parent” service, made up of other products or services. You enable this feature from the Products or Services module configuration page. It is used to define “packages” or “bundles”.
This way, you handle orders and invoices with a single item, instead of the multiple services that make up the bundle. A virtual service follows two rules:
- when added to a document (quote, order, invoice), only the parent virtual service line appears;
- a virtual service can itself contain other virtual services, which group real services.
Service contracts
Finally, some services are sold as subscriptions or long-term commitments. For this, DoliPlus specifically manages service contracts. This way, you track deadlines and renewals for each service. Learn more about service contracts
In summary, service management covers both one-off services, bundles, and subscriptions. You therefore manage your entire intangible catalogue in a single tool.
